All of our talented and dedicated nurses are members of the Oncology
Nursing Society (ONS), both the local and national chapters. ONS
is a professional organization of more than 30,000 registered nurses
and other healthcare providers dedicated to excellence in patient
care, education, research, and administration in oncology nursing.
In
order to maintain state licensure, nurses are required to have continuing
education credits. Our nurses attend high-quality educational programs
in hematology/oncology, often sponsored by the ONS.
We
are proud that many of our nurses have taken the additional step
in their professional lives to obtain ONS certification. After meeting
eligibility requirements, nurses must pass an examination that tests
their knowledge of cancer nursing. Our nurses with the initials
"OCN" behind their names have met these requirements and
continue their certification through continuing educational requirements
(in addition to the basic requirements for all RNs).
In
addition, we are fortunate that many of our nurses have spent the
majority of their professional careers not only in hematology/oncology
nursing, but also here at Medical Oncology Hematology Consultants.
